Weekly Totals Link Up: Hooray for Meat Coupons!

Spent $33 on $78 worth of groceries
Once again I almost considered not shopping at all. This week's ad was good but nothing jumped out at me since we are so well stocked on almost everything.  We needed some salad and some bread so I decided to go and grab a few things.

I am glad I decided to go because I ended up being able to use three meat coupons! As most of you know, meat coupons are very rare and with high meat prices here in South Florida I love being able to grab good deals whenever I can.

Close up of my proteins!

I am also glad to get back on my regular weekly shopping of the beginning of the Publix ad too. I had an amazing trip earlier this week where I saved 95% on almost $50 worth of stuff. The money makers on Goody Bobby Pins and International Delights creamers are going on through the 14th of December so make sure to check those out too!

Between both trips I am still under $40 for the week so that leaves me some extra grocery cash for the Farmer's Market tomorrow.

Breakdown of today's Publix trip:
Total retail value: $78.27
Total spent: $32.84
Total saved: $45.43
Percent saved: 58%

What I got with sale/coupon match ups:
  • 20 pack of Diet Coke Cans, retails for $6.59
    • Used a $1 off peelie that was on the package
    • Earned a .75 cents Ibotta deposit

Earn Money While You Grocery Shop Using Ibotta

    Hero
       Pin It

Have you heard of Ibotta? It is a great new iPhone app that lets you earn cash back for your regular grocery and household product purchases. What's perfect for me is that you can use this on top of using store coupons and sales which for me has even ended up making some items free or even a moneymaker!

I am not normally one to download alot of these apps but what I love about Ibotta is that it is so simple. All you do is sign up and download the app for free then go about your regular shopping at one of the listed retailers which include Publix, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and more.

When you get home simply scan any products that are available in your personalized offers and then upload a picture of your receipt. Each product can earn you anywhere from .25 cents to $1.25. And the best part? These are products normal people actually buy. My current offers list has things like Diet Coke, Advil, DiGiorno, Sargento, Ben & Jerrys, Colgate, Eggs and tons more.

I also like that I can do all my scanning and such at home so I don't have to deal with it in the store or use any of my data plan. I just use my wifi at home and do it when I have time.

What to see a shopping trip where I used my Ibotta app recently? Check it out here!

When you earn cash back you can choose to transfer it directly to your PayPal account or donate it to a school or to United Way. I have already transferred money to my PayPal twice and and everything went very smoothly.

Ibotta was running a promo where if you sign up through someone's referral link you automatically earn $5 to start with. Not sure if it's still running but you can click on this reffereal link HERE and see if it works. And since it's free you have nothing to lose : )

Saved 95% At Publix- Lots of freebies and under $1

    Spent $2.55 and saved $45!
With last week's Publix ad not starting until Friday last week, I was pretty  much planning on skipping that ad all together. Other than laundry detergent and cookie mix there was nothing that caught my eye.

As the week went on I read about a bunch of good deals on sale items not from the weekly sale ad and I was planning on chancing that they would still be around tomorrow when I got back on schedule with my regular Thursday shopping trips.

But Justin needed carrots and celery for Turkey Soup he is making using the leftovers of a turkey we roasted for dinner tonight so I figured I would grab detergent, cookie mix and an assortment of freebies/moneymakers while I was at it so I could use a $5/$30 off coupon.

The Goody and International Delight deals as well as this sale on Smart Balance (not the BOGO one) should be good for awhile so no worries about them ending with Florida's sale ad today. Tomorrow I am planning a small trip with the new ad so I can get back on my regular schedule of shopping the first day of the ad.

    Breakdown of today's Publix trip:
    Total retail value: $47.62
    Total spent: $2.55
    Total saved: $45.07
    Percent saved: 95%

Breakdown of what I got with sale/coupon match ups:
    • 6 International Delight Coffee Creamers, retails for $2.19 each, on sale for $1.67 each
      • Used six $1 off Facebook coupons
      • Stacked with three $1.50/2 Target coupons
      • Made them all FREE plus a .50 cents moneymaker
    • 4 packages of Goody Bobby Pins, retails for $1.09 each, on sale for .76 cents each
      • Used two $1/2 coupons (try zip code 90210)
      • Stacked with two $1/2 Publix coupons from the Winter Family Savings Booklet in stores and printable HERE
      • Made them all FREE plus a $1 moneymaker!
    •  2 boxes of Krusteaz Cookie Mix, retails for $2.19 a box, on sale BOGO ($1.09 each)

      • Used two .50 cents off printable coupons from a Facebook promo awhile ago

      • Made them .77 cents each
    •   3 bottles of All Free & Clear Laundry Detergent, retails for $5.99 each, on sale for $3.50 each
      • Used three $1 off coupons from the 11/11 RP

      • Made them $1.50 each bottle
    •  1 bag of large carrots, .99 cents
    • 1 bag of celery, $1.79

Barefoot Contessa's Quick & Easy Pecan Sticky Buns

I have never been a breakfast person. I don't eat eggs. I hate bacon and I eat my cereal dry. I don't drink coffee and I never wake up early enough to actually make anything before I leave for work. Most days I eat yogurt or a granola bar at my desk during my pre-school planning.

I may not like breakfast but I do love brunch. Brunch has pancakes, and hash browns and french toast. Brunch has everything that regular breakfast doesn't. You can't have sticky buns for breakfast but for brunch they're fair game.

Justin and I are blessed with lots of family to celebrate the holidays with. One of the perks of tons of family is having multiple events to make food for. This year we not only had Thanksgiving dinner but we also had a Thanksgiving brunch.

I had big plans to make my mom's Maple Coffee Breakfast Treat to share with Justin's side of the family but then Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) came on the Food Network and changed my plans last minute.

We were relaxing and watching tv on Wednesday night and Ina started making her quick and easy sticky buns. Usually Ina's recipes are neither quick nor easy. They usually require rare ingredients that require multiple stops at various specialty stores. But for once, she was making something that I could actually make with the items in my pantry and freezer.

I have never really made pastries before because I always assumed that they were difficult and time consuming. But Ina was right, anyone can make these babies, even me. In fact, I woke up at 9:30 and still had time to make them and be dressed and ready for our brunch at 11:00.  That's my kind of pastry. Good for you? No. Delicious? Yes. Worth every calorie? You bet.

These Sticky Buns are the perfect holiday morning treat. I am sure that they would taste great with coffee if you're a breakfast person or maybe a mimosa if you're a brunch person like me : )

Quick & Easy Pecan Sticky Buns adapted from Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics

      For the topping:
      • 12 tablespoons of butter at room temperature
      • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
      • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
      For the pastry:
      • 1 package of (two sheets) of puff pastry, defrosted overnight in the fridge
      • 2 tablespoons of butter melted and cooled
      • 2/3 cup of light brown sugar
      • Cinnamon
1.) With an electric mixer, beat room temperature butter and 1/3 cup light brown sugar until light and fluffy.
2.) Place a muffin tin on top of a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and fill each cup with a rounded tablespoon of the butter and brown sugar mixture and a sprinkling of chopped pecans. I skipped the baking sheet step and my oven regrets it.

3.) Dust a workspace with flour and unroll one of the sheets of puff pastry. Brush it with half of the melted butter and then top with 1/3 cup of the remaining brown sugar. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

4.) Starting from the top, tightly roll the puff pastry like a jelly roll. Cut in half and then cut each half into thirds. You should end up with six rolled pieces.

5.) Place each piece spiral side down in the butter mixture in each muffin cup.

6.) Repeat with second puff pastry sheet and remaining ingredients.

7.) Bake muffin tip with 12 rolls on top of the baking sheet at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes or until fully puffed and golden brown.

8.) Let whole tin cool for a few minutes before inverting the entire pan of rolls onto a serving tray lined with parchment paper.
      Enjoy!

Weekly Totals Link Up: Saved 62% At Target

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope that you are having or have had an amazing day with your family and friends. I figured I would post my weekly totals link up early since tomorrow we will be enjoying a day full of food and fun. Since the Publix ad won't be new till Friday and since we aren't hosting Thanksgiving, we really needed next to nothing this week.

I hit up Target for a few last minute things and since I had Target gift cards to burn it was fun not to actually "spend" any of my grocery cash which will go towards some of our Black Friday shopping. I also swung by Publix quickly tonight to grab some pecans I had forgotten at Target and to grab two final deals from last week's ad.

Quick Publix trip: Spent $9.14 and saved $7.98
This week I also discovered the iphone app Ibotta. I was very skeptical at first but after using it this week I am kind of obsessed with it. Ibotta is an app that lets you earn real money for products you are already buying. You simply do simple tasks to earn anywhere from around .25 to $1.25 for each item and then you take a picture of your receipt when you buy the item and your account is credit. Right now, you should also be able to earn $5 when you sign up using someone's referral link (like this one!) I was able to earn an extra $1.50 from my Target trip and the money can eventually be sent to my PayPal account.

       Breakdown of Tuedsay's Target Trip:
      Total retail value: $71.05
Total spent:  $26.80 after Ibotta earnings
      Total saved: $44.25
      Percent saved: 62%

What I got with sale/coupon match ups:
      • 1 Crisco Cooking Spray, retails for $3.19, price cut to $2.14
      •  2 boxes of Stove Top Stuffing, retails for $1.97 each, on sale for $1.00 each
      •  2 bags of Holiday Hershey's Kisses, retails for $3.19 each, on sale for $2.99 each
        • Used a $1/2 coupon from the 11/18 SS
        • Made them $2.49 each
      • 1 bag of Baby Carrots, retails for $1.99, on sale for $1.50
      •  2 five pound bags of potatoes, retails for $3.57 a bag, on sale for $1.50 a bag
      •  2 two pound bags of Domino brown sugar/powdered sugar, retails for $2.09 each, on sale for $1.89 each
      •  4 four pound bags of Domino Granulated Sugar, retails for $3.09 each, on sale for $2.29 each
      •  2 tubs of Cool Whip, retails for $1.87 each, on sale for .99 cents each
        • Used a $1/2 coupon (no longer available) or from the 11/11 SS
        • Made them .49 cents each
      •  3 bottles of Dove Men+Care Body Wash, retails for $5.34 each, on clearance for $3.48
      •  1 Dove Man Tool Scrubber, retails for $3.49
      •  2 bags of Holiday M&M's, retails for $3.19 each, on sale for $2.89 each

      Ultimate Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes

Lately I feel like life is moving way too quickly. There just doesn't seem to be enough time in the day to do all the things I need to get done. Between work, taking care of the house, getting ready for the holidays, spending time with our families, and getting in a little time with Justin, I feel like I need one million hours in a day.

When life gets too crazy, I bake. A lot. Too much even. Why do laundry when you can make a cake? Why grade research papers when you could spend a few hours in the kitchen icing cookies?

Clearly the first thing to do when you have too much to do is stuff pumpkin spice cupcakes with pumpkin spice Hershey's Kisses and top them with a pumpkin spice, brown sugar, cream cheese icing. Yeah, I tried to shorten the icing name but then you just don't get the full effect...

Yes, I know that everyone in America is on pumpkin overload right now. But contrary to their name, these little guys don't actually have any actual pumpkin in them. Just pumpkin flavored everything. Pumpkin Pie Spice. Pumpkin Spice Hershey's Kisses, Pumpkin Spice Country Crock Spread. So I guess you could call these pumpkin flavored products overload. But it works.

These truly are the Ultimate Pumpkin Spice Cupcake. Pumpkin Spice to the third power. Pumpkin insanity if you will. These cute little cakes are just one step away from pumpkin overkill but somehow the sweetness of the Hershey's Kiss and the icing is perfectly balanced by the spiciness of the cake and the bite sized portion is just enough to leave you wanting a little bit more.

While it may look and sound complicated this recipe is actually pretty easy. But between the mixing, scooping, unwrapping, stuffing and icing, you can successfully avoid cleaning/cooking/working long enough to put it off for another day. And time spent covered in sugar is never wasted right?

      The Ultimate Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes
      • 1 box of spice cake mix and ingrediants required to make it on the box
      • Pumpkin Pie Spice to taste
      • Pumpkin Spice Hershey's Kisses
      • 1 tub of Country Crock Pumpkin Spice Spread, softened
      • 8oz of cream cheese, room temperature
      • 1 cup of firmly packed brown sugar

1.) Mix the spice cake mix as directed on the box. Add pumpkin pie spice to taste. I used about a teaspoon and a half.
2.) Use a cookie scoop to fill mini cupcake liners with the spice cake batter. Place an upside down Pumpkin Spice Hershey's Kiss in each filled cupcake liner. Bake according to the box until done.

      Before and after baking
3.) With an electric mixer, beat together Pumpkin Spice Country Crock, softened cream cheese, and brown sugar until smooth and well combined.

4.) Once cupcakes are completely cooled, ice and decorate as desired.
      Enjoy!

I have five features this week because I just couldn't choose. These are all things that I am pretty sure I will be making soon because they just look too good not to : )

Weekly Totals Link Up: Saved 72% & $130 At Publix

Got everything in both pictures for $51. Saved $132 on $184 worth of groceries!

I don't know about you but I have had a crazy week. I just feel like no matter what I just can't find time to get everything done. I have been meaning to head to Target for weeks now and every week I just barely make it to Publix for my once a week trip.

I am in love with this week's Publix ad and I had a great shopping trip today. I had a $5/$50 Target catalina that was set to expire so I was able to use that and a $5/$30 Winn Dixie coupon to bring my totals down even lower.

I stayed right around my $50 a week preferred spending which is perfect since we are hopefully buying our new fancy camera during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales next week. We have met our savings goal for the camera thanks to our surplus grocery cash, gift card deals, some tutoring and some small income from this blog but it will be nice to have a little extra cash on hand while we shop to put towards a memory card, etc.  Read more about our cash grocery budget HERE.

We aren't hosting Thanksgiving this year but we are bringing the mashed potatoes, carrots and stuffing to my mom's so I will be making a small trip later next week to pick up some fresh items since there are so many great produce deals.
      #couponerproblems
As you can see from the freezer pictures we are completely over stocked on frozen veggies, frozen breads, and frozen meat so we will be trying to clean those out over the next few weeks so I won't be buying too many fresh items until we can eat through some of our stash : )

I did buy a 20! pound turkey for our Christmas party later this year because I just couldn't pass up 20 pounds of meat for $12. Much of what I have bought the last few weeks and will buy in the upcoming weeks will all be used for our Christmas party and for bring dishes to holiday events with family and friends. Love being able to get what I need while it's on sale!

I also found tons of the Winter Family Savings booklets and since a friend had also grabbed me some from her store I will be having a little giveaway of them tomorrow morning for those of you who can't find them in your store : )

      Breakdown of today's Publix trip:
